Hidden Government Jobs — High Salary, Low Competition

These are government jobs that rarely trend online. They come from smaller regulators, contract policy roles, niche defence and research bodies, and posts that are only advertised on the organisation's own website or in Employment News. Most people miss them because coaching sites and job portals don't cover them consistently.

Hidden government jobs with high salary and low competition: lesser-known financial regulators such as IFSCA, IRDAI and PFRDA; contract policy jobs including NITI Aayog; niche defence and security roles such as the Coast Guard and JAG; research and scientist jobs at BIS, CSIR, ICAR and NIC; teaching and academic posts at central universities, IITs, NITs and IIMs; and legal and constitutional bodies including the Supreme Court and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats, shown against RBI, SEBI and NITI Aayog office backdrops.

Before you apply: verify eligibility in each notification, since it changes between cycles. These posts are only advertised on the organisation's own website or in Employment News, so bookmark the ones that fit your background.

1. Lesser-known financial regulators

Pay similar to RBI/SEBI, far less competition.

Watch closely: IFSCA regulates the GIFT City financial centre and acts there with the powers of RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA. As of 11 September 2026 its 2026 advertisement had not been published, so it may come soon — the 2025 notice came out on 11 September 2025. One listing quotes a salary of about ₹1.8 lakh a month, but confirm that in the notification. PFRDA's notifications are irregular and a 2026 cycle looked relatively unlikely, which is exactly why fewer people prepare for it.

2. Contract policy jobs in ministries (the most "hidden" category)

NITI Aayog Young Professional and Consultant posts: register once on the "Work for Viksit Bharat" portal, and NITI accepts profiles on a rolling basis throughout the year. Its most recent round (13 Young Professional and 10 Consultant posts) closed on 28 September 2026. Young Professionals must be up to 32 years old with at least one year of experience. Past ads required a professional degree from four years of study or a postgraduate degree, and paid ₹60,000 a month on a 2-year contract; one recent source puts it at ₹70,000 a month now.

Many ministries hire Young Professionals on contract, and these are often advertised only on the ministry's own website or on professional-institute portals. For example, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has advertised YP roles through the ICAI, ICMAI and ICSI recruitment portals. CA, CS and CMA members should check these portals regularly. These contract roles aren't permanent, but they are strong stepping stones into policy careers.

Supreme Court Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate is a coveted 1-year post for fresh law graduates. How to catch these before others do

These posts rarely go viral, so the advantage goes to people who track them directly. Bookmark the careers pages of 10–15 organisations that fit your degree and check them weekly. Read Employment News every Saturday, because many small regulators and research bodies advertise there first. You can also set a Google Alert for phrases like "recruitment" combined with the organisation's site, e.g. site:ifsca.gov.in recruitment. If you're a CA, CS, CMA or lawyer, check your professional body's job portal, since ministries often recruit through them.
