UAE schools for Indian families 2026–27: fees, best options and what you can afford on your salary

For an Indian family in the UAE, school fees are often the second-biggest cost after rent — and the choice of school can decide whether a UAE salary actually leaves you better off. This guide lists the schools Indian families most often consider across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates, with 2026–27 fees and ratings, and then recommends what you can realistically afford at different salary levels.

What this guide covers. The UAE has hundreds of private schools — Dubai alone has more than 200, teaching around 17 curricula (WAM) — so listing every one isn't practical. Instead, this guide focuses on the schools most relevant to Indian families: the leading Indian-curriculum (CBSE and ICSE) schools in each emirate, plus affordable and premium British, IB and American options many Indian families choose.

How to read the fees. Figures are published annual tuition ranges, from the lowest to the highest grade, in AED. Rupee equivalents use about ₹26.2 per dirham. Always confirm the exact fee for your child's grade with the school and the regulator before deciding.

For admissions, age cut-offs and documents, see our companion guide Indian Schools in the UAE: Boards, Fees and How to Choose.

How UAE school fees work in 2026–27

Dubai: fees are frozen. Dubai's education regulator, KHDA, confirmed that private school fees will not increase for the 2026–27 academic year (WAM), so no school can raise tuition this year (Tuitional).

Each emirate has its own regulator and ratings: KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and SPEA in Sharjah. A "Very Good" in one emirate isn't directly comparable with another.

Typical fee bands by curriculum in Dubai (2026–27):

CurriculumTypical annual fee (AED)
Indian (CBSE)6,000 – 30,000 (Tuitional)
American20,000 – 95,000 (Tuitional)
BritishRoughly 30,000 – 100,000 for most schools (Real Estate Club Dubai)
IB38,000 – 108,000 (Tuitional)

The takeaway: an Indian-curriculum school typically costs a fraction of a British, American or IB school. For a family with two children, the difference can easily be AED 60,000–150,000 a year — often the deciding factor in whether a move pays off.

Dubai: Indian-curriculum schools

Indian-curriculum schools give Indian families a familiar CBSE board at a fraction of international school fees.

Fee ranges and ratings: GEMS Modern Academy and Credence High School (Best School); JSS Private School (Num8ers); Primus, Delhi Private School and the two GEMS Our Own schools (Driven Properties); GEMS New Millennium School (EdCare); The Indian High School and Gulf Indian High School (Best School).

What stands out

In rupees, AED 10,000 is about ₹2.6 lakh a year and AED 30,000 about ₹7.9 lakh.

Dubai: British, IB and American options

Many Indian families, especially those planning international university study, choose a British, IB or American school. These cost more, but there are good-value options.

Worth knowing

Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi has more than two dozen Indian-curriculum schools, with fees from about AED 3,270 to AED 23,160 at the entry level (Mdares). Schools are inspected by ADEK.

Mayoor Private SchoolCBSE18,240 – 26,130 (2025–26) (EdCare)Very Good

Sources disagree on Mayoor's current fees — another guide lists AED 23,160–31,370 (Best School) — so confirm with the school.

Very Good-rated Indian schools in Abu Dhabi include Abu Dhabi Indian School Al Wathba, Bright Riders School, Mayoor Private School, Saint Joseph's School and Private International English School (Best School).

Lowest fees: Asian International Private School in Ruwais starts from about AED 3,550 a year (Best School).

International options: the American International School in Abu Dhabi charges about AED 30,800–56,000 (Wikipedia), and Yasmina British Academy AED 49,740–67,210 (Wikipedia).

Note for Malayali families: Model Private School also offers the Kerala board in higher secondary (Wikipedia), useful if you expect to return to Kerala.

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah is popular with Indian families who work in Dubai, thanks to lower rents and a strong group of Indian schools. Schools are inspected by SPEA.

Standout choice: GEMS Millennium School Sharjah holds an Outstanding rating at mid-range fees (EdCare), often better value than schools charging far more.

Other well-rated Indian schools in Sharjah include Our Own English High School Sharjah (Boys) and Ambassador School Sharjah, both rated Very Good, and Sharjah Indian School, rated Good (Edarabia). Sharjah Indian School is run by the Indian Association Sharjah (Wikipedia).

Northern emirates. Delhi Private School has sister schools in Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman (Wikipedia), and Our Own English High School has branches in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain (Wikipedia). Fees here are generally lower, but the choice is smaller.

Commuting tip: many families live in Sharjah and work in Dubai. Factor in daily traffic — and school bus routes — when choosing both home and school.

What can you afford? Recommendations by salary

A simple rule of thumb. Our planning rule is to keep total tuition for all your children at roughly 10–15% of your household's gross annual income. Spending more is possible, but it squeezes savings — often the main reason to be in the UAE. The bands below assume two children and use each school's fee range; remember that fees rise as children move into higher grades, so budget for the top of the range.

35,000 – 60,000~42,000 – 108,000GEMS Modern Academy (Indian, Outstanding); value international schools such as GEMS Founders School, Mirdif American School or Dubai Scholars; GEMS Wellington Academy (Silicon Oasis) in the lower grades.
60,000 and above72,000+Premium British or IB schools such as Dubai International Academy, GEMS Wellington International or Repton School Dubai, if you plan an international university path.

If your employer pays an education allowance, add it to your budget — it can move you up a band.

Worked example. A family earning AED 25,000 a month (AED 300,000 a year) has a tuition budget of about AED 30,000–45,000 for two children. Two children at Delhi Private School Dubai (AED 11,139–15,592 each) cost about AED 22,000–31,000 a year — comfortably inside the budget. Two children at a mid-range British school charging AED 40,000–90,000 each would cost several times the budget.

Moving alone? If your family stays in India while you work in the UAE, your children's school costs stay at Indian levels — often the biggest financial advantage of going alone. Use our India vs UAE Savings Calculator to compare both options.

Costs beyond tuition — and how to save

Tuition is only part of the bill. Budget roughly an extra 15–25% per child for:

Ways to save

  1. Choose home and school together. A school near home cuts bus costs and travel time.
  2. Pay in instalments if needed. Many schools allow payment across the year — GEMS Millennium School Sharjah, for example, in ten instalments (SchoolVita).
  3. Ask about sibling and corporate discounts. Some schools offer them; it's always worth asking.
  4. Negotiate an education allowance with your employer before you accept an offer. See How to Evaluate a UAE Job Offer: Basic vs Allowances.
  5. Check the official fee schedule. In Dubai, query any fee that appears on an invoice but not in the school's published schedule (UAE Expert Hub).
  6. Avoid switching boards mid-way. Moving between curricula can mean repeating a year or paying for catch-up tuition.

Your school-choice checklist

The bottom line: Indian families in the UAE don't need to spend a fortune on schooling. Very Good-rated CBSE schools are available from under AED 15,000 a year in every major emirate, and Outstanding-rated options exist at mid-range fees. Match the school to your salary and long-term plans, and your UAE move is far more likely to pay off.
